Job Description
Machine Operator -Spiral Manufacturing - Decatur, IL
Machine Operator – Decatur, IL
ADM Spiral Manufacturing
Full-Time, Hourly Position

Days / Hours of Operation:
  • Monday - Thursday, 06:00 - 16:30
  • Fridays 06:00 – 14:30 (typically available as voluntary overtime, but required as needed)
Starting Pay Rate: $27.96 / Hour (Technician 3)

Spiral Manufacturing has an opening for a dedicated machine operator technician. This role would be approximately 95% production work focused on operating a mostly automated machine used for converting roll-stock materials into folded flat sheets. These sheets are used to create spiral wound filters in the next stage of the process, so they must be safely produced with both precision and speed.
The folding machine is a complex piece of equipment that typically requires six months or more of dedicated training to run efficiently and a knack for on-the-fly troubleshooting. When running efficiently, the operator’s job is highly repetitive but still requires constant attention.
In addition to operating the equipment, the technician is expected to learn every aspect of the machine’s preventive maintenance and how to effectively perform minor repairs (not for energized components).
When the folding machine is not in operation, or in need of service, the technician will be utilized in other production or maintenance tasks related to the production of spiral wound filters or ion exchange laterals until the folding machine is needed again.
Most of the work required will be performed indoors in a clean and climate-controlled environment, with the technician typically operating individually or in small groups. Some outdoor work may occasionally be required.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining a safe work attitude and full compliance with all safety practices
  • Stopping unsafe behaviors for others through reporting or direct interaction

  • Forklift use
  • General housekeeping tasks

  • Participation in internal safety auditing
  • Perform JSA’s, Hazard Assessments, and Safe Work Permits.
Job Requirements:
  • Candidate must be eighteen years or older
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States without visa sponsorship
  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in English (both verbal and written)
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to perform highly repetitive work safely for long periods of time, often standing in one place
  • Mechanical aptitude is preferred
  • Experience in production, assembly, or filter manufacturing preferred
  • Effective time management skills
  • Complete adherence to all safety, environmental, and quality policies
  • Complete adherence to ADM’s Code of Conduct Policy

  • Work well in a small group setting
