Land Engineering Intern - Fall 2026
Overview
ABOUT THE POSITION
VHB’s Land Development Intern - Boston, MA is designed to introduce students into the workforce. The program will build essential professional skills by offering opportunities for hands-on learning in a supportive yet challenging environment. The intern program is designed to round out participants’ academic learning with real world experience and help them explore related areas of practice to find the best fit for their career path.
Land Development engineers require a variety of skills to develop ideas and creative solutions that help make challenging development projects a reality. We are there at every stage of a project; from preliminary research, site survey, conceptual/final design, and permitting, all the way through construction. We work closely with VHBers across disciplines, and consultants to ensure a project fulfills the needs of our client.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with numerous VHB staff, clients, and consultants to advance projects in a timely manner
Assist in development of planning and engineering solutions
Assist in data mining and visualization
Perform analysis of data or calculations
Perform field data collection and other on-site project support activities
Prepare written documents, summarize information collected by others, and assemble reports
Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
Self-motivated with attention to detail
A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve
Knowledge of drawing and mapping tools such as AutoCAD and GIS
Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
Qualifications
Currently pursuing a degree in engineering or a related field
Strong interest in transportation, land development, urban design, real estate, environmental, institutional, or energy sector
Ability to work on a computer remotely if necessary
Ability to travel locally and complete fieldwork if necessary
Valid U.S. Drivers License

Hiring Salary Range: The estimated hiring salary range for this position is $19/hr - $30/hr. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
