VHB's Structures group is seeking a Senior Technical Bridge/QC engineer to expand our structural practice/capabilities across the footprint. In this senior technical role, you'll be an integral part of the planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects, from railroad to highway, as well as mentoring our structural team.
In this position, you would serve in a lead role overseeing the technical design of structural engineering projects in our bridge and structures group. The role will include oversight and mentoring our engineering staff on best practices for planning, analysis, design, and detailing of bridge and other transportation related structural projects.
Responsibilities
Oversees the technical design of structural engineering projects
Directs and mentors team members in the development of design plans, technical oversight, specifications, design calculations, load ratings, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, etc.
Performs quality reviews of team members work for accuracy and to ensure that the production of plans, specifications, reports, and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements
Manages, develops, organizes, and implements structural planning, analysis, preliminary and final design document preparation for bridge-focused transportation projects
Skills and Attributes
Strong proven ability to oversee complex projects
Motivated to coach and mentor team members
Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in structural engineering
Experience and in-depth knowledge of MassDOT Bridge design standards
Demonstrated excellence in technical writing
Team oriented with strong capability to work independently
AutoCAD Civil 3D, Bentley OpenBridge, MicroStation v8 and Connect experience is a strong plus
Qualifications
15+ years of professional experience in structural bridge design, construction phasing, and complex bridge/transportation projects required
MassDOT/MBTA experience is preferred
PE license required
BS in Civil/Structural Engineering required
Master’s degree with structural emphasis a plus
Experience completing transportation studies, design reports, final design documents and developing contract plans, in conformity with accepted engineering standards and procedures
Independent experience developing bridge design and detailing (steel, concrete, prestressed concrete), and seismic analysis
Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $170,000-230,000 and the position located in Worcester, MA is $160,000-220,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
