5,000-square-foot YMCA facility coming to Alabama State University campus (1172 hits)

Alabama State University and the YMCA are excited to introduce a transformative partnership aimed at promoting health, wellness, and community engagement through the establishment of a YMCA facility on the ASU campus.

“This partnership between Alabama State University and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery represents more than a shared investment in facilities and programs; it reflects our mutual commitment to uplifting our students and our community,” Ross stated. “By working together, we are creating spaces and opportunities that will foster health, growth, and strengthen community connections for generations to come. This is Hornet Nation at its best — leading, serving, and transforming lives.”

In addition to the campus facility, this landmark partnership will feature a variety of collaborative programs that demonstrate a shared commitment to creating accessible and inclusive wellness opportunities for ASU students and the broader Montgomery community. Through strategic investment and a unified vision, ASU and the YMCA are setting a new standard for university-community collaboration in the River Region.

Key Features of the Partnership Include:

1. YMCA Facility on ASU Campus
A new 5,000-square-foot YMCA facility, equipped with state-of-the-art fitness equipment, will be built on the Alabama State University campus. This facility will be staffed and operated in partnership with the YMCA, providing comprehensive wellness services for students, faculty, and residents.

2. Comprehensive Programming Initiatives
The partnership will offer a diverse range of programs, including youth leadership development, sports camps led by ASU coaches, mental wellness workshops, and specialized fitness and educational classes — all designed to promote holistic well-being and personal growth.

3. Community Impact Engagement
Joint outreach initiatives, such as health fairs, service projects, and wellness education workshops, will directly address local health challenges and strengthen community ties by expanding access to meaningful wellness opportunities.

4. Collaborative Marketing and Promotion
Through co-branded events, this partnership will amplify awareness of health and wellness resources, while promoting participation across the campus and community.
