Oakwood University's Communication Department and Peters Media Center Receive Donation (4294 hits)

The Peters Media Center will now be fully outfitted with television sets designed to facilitate the advanced training of our Communications students, and to produce an array of content through our Oakwood University Broadcast Network.

“The way forward for the University is to brand its content around the world by delivering quality, family-oriented, and socially-relevant programming,” said President Leslie Pollard. “On behalf of our colleagues in our Communications Media Program, we anticipate an expanded influence of Oakwood University through the career preparation of our students,” Pollard concluded.

Dr. Rennae Elliott, Department Chair of the Communication Department, commented “One of the strengths of our program is that we operate with industry-standard equipment. The University Administration made sure that our department had industry equipment for student training. This latest contribution definitely enhances the real-world feel of our students' practical experiences. When they leave Oakwood, the equipment they meet in the workplace will be the same equipment they trained on.”

Dr. Dwyane Cheddar, Assistant Professor and Program Director for Broadcast Journalism and Film and Television Production and Program Coordinator, commented, “We are extremely grateful for the generosity of WHNT for their donation of television studio sets and monitors. As we strive to train our students at the highest level, we are grateful for the hands-on experience these sets will provide.”

The in-kind donation from WHNT-19 is valued at somewhere between $175,000 and $200,000.
