About the Team

It’s an exciting time in technology, and that buzz is felt throughout PetSmart! We are continuing to grow at a faster pace and we want to continue to provide best-in-class experiences for pets and pet parents. Our IT team has 4 different departments: Information Security, IT Service Delivery, Business Enabling Systems, and IT Commerce & Customer Engagement.

 

Whether it’s online or in our stores, the work that the IT team does is instrumental in PetSmart’s success. We have a strategic and actionable plan underway and are looking for associates who are just as excited about it as we are.


About the Location

Hybrid Position:

This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.

How this role will make an impact:

PetSmart is aggressively accelerating its web team and we are looking for strong, experienced team members who can drive us forward. Creates web solutions by developing, implementing, and maintaining Internet/intranet applications using the latest technologies in support of business and IT needs. Be prepared to work in a high-impact, dynamic environment with changing priorities, development methodologies, and technical solutions.

Your goals and responsibilities will include:

  • Work with product team to turn high fidelity design into an interactive web experience
  • Work with product and UX teams to review designs and concepts and offer suggestions to decrease complexity while maintaining the spirit of the experience
  • Proactively make recommendations for technical enhancements for better performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Accountable for delivering in an agile environment
  • Works with cross functional IT and business teams to design and develop solutions based on business requirements
  • Identify areas of improvement in design, implementation, process, tooling, automated testing, SQA
  • Remain current on latest web technologies seeking to integrate them in solutions where appropriate
  • Recommends system solutions by comparing advantages and disadvantages of custom development and purchase / open source alternatives

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent preferred
  • 3+ years hands-on experience with web development
  • Expert understanding of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, RESTful APIs, HTTP, networking concepts
  • Experience building and architecting modern, responsive, and adaptive web applications
  • Experience with various JS libraries and frameworks (React, Vue, Angular, etc.)
  • Familiar with mobile app technologies for iOS and Android (Kotlin, Swift, React Native, etc.)
  • Experience with MVC and Object-Oriented Programming concepts
  • Demonstrated strong front-end development skills especially concerning accessibility, extensibility, client-side computing, object-oriented design patterns, and object-oriented CSS
  • Experience with SASS/Less/PostCSS Frameworks
  • Demonstrated passion for user experience design and usability
  • Demonstrated experience with source code management tools (Git, SVN, etc.)
  • Familiar with and experienced in making use of open source components
  • Ability to address short term tactical requirements without losing site of the longer range strategic direction
  • Self-motivated and discipline to meet deadlines with speed, accuracy and professional attitude
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and trouble-shooting skills
  • Collaborative and a team player
