Multi-Level Marketing Posted on 10-27-2009

Chantay
Louisville, KY

Question for you all on BWC:

In the world of multi-level marketing I have a few questions for those of you that have some experience in this area:
Can you make money?  Did you lose money? How much time did you spend?  Did you use social networking sites?  Did your friends and family support you or was most of your downline strangers and general associates first?

What was your experience.  According to Bill Clinton - see attached video, MLM is the place to be.  I am a new distributor for Ardyss International (www.nip3in10.com).  I am enjoying my journey, but have found it surprising that I get more support from associates than I do from my family and friends (except those hard core ride/die friends).

That is interesting that all my customers are not family or close friends.  It is hard for a first time network marketer to swallow that pill.  But they want to see what you are doing, see your success, then maybe they will buy or jump on board.  After a year my husband is now my business partner.  That's huge. But one of the best industries to work in with the right product.

Thanks Marjorie.  Good point re: how they will likely jump on board after my success.  Guess I just gotta show 'em!

It's perfectly normal for your downline not to be friends and family. If you were starting any other business, would you look for employees just among your family and friends? Probably not.

Unfortunately, though, most mlm leaders advise their members to solicit their friends and family. As a marketing professional involved with a network marketing company, I cannot understand such bad advice.

Look at your product. Decide who your target market is. Go after that market. If your friends and family jump in, too, that's great but don't expect your friends and family to sustain your new business.

Much success to you, Chantay.

Good point.  I've started in that very direction.  I was looking at it incorrectly -thinking that I was introducing a great opportunity to friends and family.  A great way for them to start their own business.  But the truth is I wasn't looking for that entrepreneurial spirit in them, only my own selfish belief that I was trying to help them.  I couldn't understand why they weren't taking me up on it!  I can't "save" them into believing that there is a better way, that they can have their own business if they aren't willing to see it.  It's not about them "supporting me", it's about them doing what they think is right for them, just like I did what I thought was right for me.  Thanks for helping me reveal myself to myself!  LOL!  Great success and happiness.

Hi Ladies, very informative discussion. I totally agree about reaching outward to cold market first and avoiding some of the negativism from warm markets to start. Wish I had been told that at first, but better late than never.
My most affective approach is with the interview. Would like to know if any of you use this technique.

Happy New Year! I know I'm a little late to the party but I will comment anyway because you never know who's looking for an opportunity or assistance.  In today's world of network marketing people struggle because they are still using out-dated methods.  What worked 3 years ago or more is not working today because of technology.  You don't have to approach friends, family, associates, and the like when effective online methods will get you promising results without irritating people in your circle.  Just imagine the size of your business if you had people looking for your product instead of targeting dead-end prospects?  I was very successful in network marketing 10 years ago but today my approaches are almost obsolete.  So after much research I found out what people are doing today to grow their business at exponential rates and in a somewhat down economy.  They are using highly effective online marketing techniques.  I've starting using these methods and it's been a major relief in building my business.  In fact, I've grown a larger organization today in less time and made more money using an approach that will work with any network marketing business or small business.  Because if you don't have a consistent flow of high quality traffic then you won't have a business! We all put a lot of time and money in our businesses to not produce an abundance of fresh fruit on consistent basis.  If interested in knowing more to grow your business, please do not hesitate to contact me.
